About me and schedule

My name is Jason Cooper, and I am proud to be the 7th and 8th grade art teacher at Terra Vista Middle School. I graduated from Coronado High School in Lubbock, Texas, and went on to study at the Texas Tech University School of Art. While exploring different areas of fine arts, I discovered jewelry and metalsmithing during my sophomore year and quickly fell in love with the process. I chose to focus on this field and graduated in 2013 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, specializing in jewelry and metalsmithing.

During my senior year, I realized how much I enjoyed helping other students with their projects. After many late nights in the studio mentoring classmates, I discovered that teaching art might be an even greater passion than creating it. Following graduation, I earned my teaching certification and began my career at Hereford High School before returning to Lubbock to teach at OL Slaton Middle School. After seven years there, I was excited to join the Terra Vista team.

As an art teacher, I strive to create a classroom where students can explore new mediums, try techniques they may not experience elsewhere, and gain confidence in their creativity. My goal is for every student to not only enjoy making art but also to walk away with a strong understanding of the fundamentals that all art is built on. Most importantly, I want students to discover the joy of expressing themselves through art in fun and engaging ways.
