The students began working on their musical pieces during the fall with selections ranging from international folk songs to classical music. During the contest, students gained valuable performance experience and received feedback from the judges.
"I am so proud of our orchestra students. They have worked tirelessly to learn their music and hone their performance skills. They learned how to persevere through illness, testing, cold weather, etc., and they showed what they are capable of achieving, regardless of circumstances,” said Stacey Nash, Frenship Middle School and Alcove Trails Middle School Orchestra Director. “I am also tremendously grateful for our incredible administrators, teachers, staff members, and parents, who have been truly supportive and encouraging to the orchestra program. We could not do what we do without their help."
The orchestra program was established at Frenship ISD during the 2023-2024 school year. Just two years in, middle school students are exceeding expectations and creating a legacy of excellence for the new program.
“This is just our second year of orchestra in Frenship ISD, yet many of the students are already challenging themselves with difficult repertoire,” said Merrie King, the Heritage Middle School and Terra Vista Middle School Orchestra Director. “They've worked really hard, and I've seen a lot of improvement throughout the year. It's exciting to see all the growth in our program.”
