Frenship Middle School Surprises Incoming 6th Graders

Starting middle school can sometimes be daunting for students. Frenship Middle School staff and administration try to ease the nerves with a welcome tradition that has become one of their favorite traditions. A few days before school starts, teachers at FMS team up to surprise all incoming sixth graders with special Frenship yard signs.

“We often hear about how older siblings received their signs when they first came to FMS, and younger siblings look forward to getting a sign of their own,” said Tim Reese, Assistant Principal.

The yard sign delivery not only generates excitement among the new students but also strengthens the bond between the school and the community.

"It creates a sense of community because it allows our staff to see where their students are coming from and to meet them in their own environment," said Reese. "It definitely helps to bridge a gap; it lets our families know that we want to meet you wherever you come from, and it shows our future Tigers just how excited we are to have them at FMS."

Since the tradition started in 2016, this initiative has grown into one of the year's most anticipated events for students and staff.

“It really is one of my favorite days of the year,” said Frenship Middle School Counselor Chelsea Click. “It’s an all-around fun day. We build camaraderie while driving around to deliver the signs, and the look on the students’ faces, when they see us on their front porch, is priceless. I absolutely love it!”

This tradition exemplifies the welcoming spirit of Frenship Middle School, setting the tone for a positive and connected school community long before the first day of class.
