Frenship Students Compete in Special Olympics State Bowling Competition

On Friday, in front of a packed house, 30 Frenship students competed in the Special Olympics Winter Bowling Games hosted at Lubbock’s Main Event. Between the sounds of laughter, excited cheers and high fives, you could barely hear the bowling balls knocking down the pins during the state competition.

Main Events across Texas hosted the state bowling games, making it easier for the students to attend the competitions closer to home. Hundreds of students from across the South Plains including Lubbock ISD, Lubbock-Cooper, Plainview, Abilene, Snyder and others joined Frenship to compete at the Lubbock location.

Frenship students from Bennett Elementary, Legacy Elementary, Terra Vista Middle School, Ninth Grade Center and Frenship High School competed in the games where athletes were split into divisions of eight bowlers based on their age and skills.

After months of practice, dedication and many strikes and spares, the Frenship athletes represented their schools proudly. Out of hundreds of athletes, eight Frenship students earned first place in their divisions and another three won second place.

“I had the awesome privilege of getting to walk up and down the lanes to see all of the Frenship kids throughout the day. It was amazing and they played hard,” said LaFawnda Kubacak, Frenship Special Olympics coach. “It was great to see them congratulate each other when they were finished and compare awards. I am one proud coach!”

Below are the Frenship athletes who placed first in their division:

  • Brandon Lappe, FHS
  • Taylor Abbott, FHS
  • Mahaya Moore, NGC
  • McGwire Ebert, NGC
  • Ryder Crews, NGC
  • Aidan Noyola, Bennett
  • Jaxun Anderson, Bennett
  • Jakobi Williams, Legacy

Congratulations to all the Frenship Special Olympics athletes who competed!
