TVMS Students Tour Three Local College Campuses

The eighth-grade class from Terra Vista Middle School had the opportunity to glimpse into their future last Friday when the students visited one of three local college campuses.

Lubbock Christian University, South Plains College and Texas Tech University all opened their doors for the students to come and explore their numerous opportunities available to them after high school. The goal of the TVMS staff was to support college and career readiness and provide the students with the opportunity to learn more about their possibilities after high school graduation.

“This was the first year Terra Vista has taken all eighth graders on a college campus tour,” said TVMS counselor Kayla Vinson. “Our hope was that the students would be able to see first-hand what college life was all about.”
“I thought it was really informational and I liked seeing the classrooms and how college life works,” said TVMS student Reagan Hanks.

During the tours, students explored the different courses of study that lead to various career opportunities. They also saw what the college experience provides through activities, organizations, dining and residential halls and more.

“My favorite part was seeing all the buildings at Texas Tech and going into the classrooms,” said student Avery Gutierrez.

Student Zachary Phaosoung added, “It was fun to see the dorm rooms and have the college students show us around the campus.”
